POLLUTION,POLLUTANTS AND EFFECTS

 DEFINATION OF POLLUTION

Pollution is the effect of undesirable changes in our environment that have harmful effects on plants, animals and human beings. This  occurs when only short term economic gains are made at the cost of the long term ecological benefits for humanity.
Natural phenomenon don't led to generate ecological changes that have been made by human beings. We have contaminated our air, water and land on which life itself depends with a verity of waste products.

POLLUTANTS

Pollution is the effect of undesirable changes in our environment that have harmful effects on plants, animals and human beings. This  occurs when only short term economic gains are made at the cost of the long term ecological benefits for human beings.

Natural phenomenon don't led to generate ecological changes that have been made by human beings. We have contaminated our air, water and land on which life itself depends with a verity of waste products ,Pesticides and fertilizers, pollute water bodies, air and surroundings ,etc. Effluents from tanneries contain many harmful chemicals and emit foul smell.

TYPES OF POLLUTANTS

From an ecological perspective pollutants can be classified follows.

Degradable pollutants

These can be rapidly broken down by natural process (eg)domestic sewage, discarded vegetables, paper, plantts etc..

Slowly degradable pollutants

Pollutants that remain in the environment for many years in an unchanged condition and take decades.(eg)DDT and most plastics.

Non degradable pollutants

These cannot be degraded by natural processes. Once they are released in to the environment they are difficult to eradicate and continue to accumulate (eg) toxic elements like led or mercury.

EFFECT OF POLLUTANTS

Pollutants having negative effects on human health and environment. The serious health problems of pollution causes, cancer, respiratory diseases, infection.

Economic damage caused by pollution, such as the damage to crops, forests, and fisheries. Pollutants also harm to recreational and aesthetic enjoyment of the environment, examples, loss of visibility and of hunting and fishing.

Ecological degradation of natural areas, including the impoverishment of ecosystem and changes in habitat and species distribution due to pollution stresses and disruption of services provided by natural system, such a the regulation of climate and hydrology-ice system.
