GROUND WATER POLLUTION

 Lot of people around the world depend on ground water for drinking,domestic, industrial and agricultural purpose.Ground water is a clean source of water.Human activities such as improper sewage disposal,oil spill and agriculture chemicals, industrial wastes are causing pollution of ground-water.They ground water become contaminated, it is more difficult and expensive to clean up.

                                                    

SOURCES OF GROUND WATER POLLUTION

Natural source

Some substances found naturally in rocks or soil . Which includes    iron,manganese,arsenic,cholorides,fluorides,sulfates that can become dissolved in ground water.They naturally obtained particles, which includes decaying organic matter, can move in ground water as particles.Ground water pollution may causes health threat if consumed in large quantities, and they produce odor,taste or color.Grounnd water that contains large quantities of these substances is not used for drinking, and domestic purpose.

Septic system

Septic system is used for dispose of their human wastes.Septic systems that are improperly sited,designed,constructed and poor maintained can pollute ground bacteria,viruses,nitrates,detergents,oils and chemicals. These pollutants can mixed with water supply and contaminate ground water.

                                                  

Hazardous waste

Hazardous waste should always  be disposed properly. Hazardous wastes which includes,oils,lawn,garden chemicals,paints,disinfectants,swiming pool chemicals. Similarly that wastes should not be disposed of in drains at the work place because they could contaminate a drinking water sources.

Oil spills

Under ground storage tanks are commonly used to store petroleum products and other chemical substances.Large number of industries and high-way departments also store gasoline,diesel,fuel,oil and chemicals in on sit tanks. Many of these tanks have leaked and spilled in to the environment. These substances can migrate through the soil and reach the ground water.Improper chemical storage sloppy materials handling and poor quality containers can be major threats to ground water pollution.

                                              

Pesticides and fertilizers

Use of pesticides and fertilizers,herbicides,rodenticides,fungicides,insecticides are used for agricultural purposes. Fertilizers and pesticides have entered and contaminate ground-water.Some pesticides remain in soil and water for prolong periods'.

Poorly constructed wells

These wells can allow contaminants, such as chemicals,pesticides,fertilizers,and other wastes to enter ground water.

 Water pollution occurs when unwanted materials enter in to the water ,that causes changes the quality of water.It is harmful to the environment and affects human health.
